Safety & Environment

We are dedicated to protecting our employees' health and safety, and operating our business in an environmentally responsible manner.

Preventing pollution and minimising the risk to our employees are our two biggest priorities and we plan to tackle these during 2008 by:

  • Improving the efficiency of our resource usage
  • Minimising waste generation through the application of reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Enhancing external customers perception of T-Mobile's commitment to HS&E
  • Improving the HSE communications to internal and external customers
  • Introducing initiatives encouraging employees to lead healthier lifestyles and to prevent injury and ill health
  • Providing training and resources to our employees to support the environment and a healthy and safe workforce
  • Continually improving the business world class management of health, safety & environmental performance

To achieve these goals, we've set 21 specific targets for 2008 focusing on energy reduction, waste management, training and injury reduction.

  1. 5% CO2 reduction (energy consumption)
  2. Water usage reduction by 3%
  3. Reduce business fuel usage and CO2 emissions by company car drivers and cash takers e.g. by utilising public transport
  4. 25% decrease in general waste sent to landfill
  5. 10% reduction in amount of paper purchased for printing
  6. 50% reduction in contamination of recycled waste
  7. Support new Corporate Responsibility strategy
  8. Increase phone recycling levels to 25k units per month by end 2008
  9. Improve and update information for customer facing employees by end Q4
  10. Improve and update HSE information provided to external customers
  11. Work with HS&E Dept to develop local initiatives to support the ‘Healthy Minds' campaign during 2008
  12. Review ill health statistics on a monthly basis
  13. Utilise the new performance management processes to support the high performance organisation
  14. Reduce employee injury incidents by 10%
  15. Directors to attend HSE training by end Q2
  16. All managers to attend HSE briefing by end Q4 (replaces Refresher course)
  17. Support the driver risk assessment and training initiatives
  18. Comply with all relevant HS&E legal requirements
  19. Support the HSE Dept during external audits of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 management systems
  20. Review departmental HS&E Plan every quarter
  21. Review directorate HSE plan every six months with Head of HS&E

We hold the following international registrations:

  • ISO14001: 2004 Environmental Management Systems
  • OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
  • PAS 99: 2006 Integrated Management

We also work in partnership with the Carbon Trust to reduce our carbon footprint and currently use 50% renewable energy.
