Network services

Our Network Group is responsible for planning, building and operating the network used by our customers, as well as the infrastructure used internally. The network is our business.

We invest heavily every day in our network in the UK and we've acquired the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) licences now covering 40 million people for 3G, and 60 million people for 2G, in the UK.

How we're structured

Network Services within T-Mobile is split into three areas.

RAN Planning and Deployment

This area is responsible for T-Mobile's RAN (Radio Access Network), as well as providing the connection to the Core Network. The RAN typically includes a radio network controller and a base station controller, along with several transmitters / receivers (ie Node B or base transceiver station.

  • circuit provisioning

Network Planning and Development

This area includes:

  • Enterprise Data Network This involves planning, designing and implementing the data network infrastructure for our corporate information systems.
  • Data Network Design and Planning This encompasses network infrastructure, firewalls, services, configuration management and team support;
  • Fixed Network Planning Here we manage network capacity through acquiring and processing forecasts to help make cost-effective provision of resources.
  • Network Planning Office This involves forecasting, network investment, planning and engineering project management and process and quality for networks.

Service Integration

This area enables the integration and efficient testing of new systems and services, including value added services - eg videos to your phone when a football goal is scored.
