The amount of data you use when you go online really depends on what you do. Here are a few examples of things you might typically get up to:
- If you want to plan your next few days away, you might browse 100 web pages, which uses about 10 megabytes (MB) of data.
- Checking an email and opening the attached picture of your new nephew would only be about 1MB of data. While for the same amount of data you could read through about 100 emails without attachments to keep on top of work.
- Chatting on Instant Messenger with your mates back home for an hour would use up about 1MB of data. And uploading last nights photos to Facebook would use about the same.
- Downloading a song might use 5MB of data, and watching a trailer of that next must-see movie would take 10MB.
Note: These examples are a rough guide only and the actual amount of data used will vary depending on what you're doing.
If I use Mobile Broadband abroad, how much data am I likely to use?
The amount of data you use when you go online really depends on what you do. Here are a few examples of things you might typically get up to:
- Checking a good handful of your emails won't use more than about 100 kilobytes of data (0.1 megabytes or MB)
- Catching up online with any sports results you might be missing on will only use about 0.1MB too.
- Uploading a holiday snap to Facebook will use about 0.2MB of data, so you could add a selection for your mates to see for about 1MB.
Note: These examples are a rough guide only and the actual amount of data used will vary depending on what you're doing.

How do I use my BlackBerry® abroad?
When you take your BlackBerry® abroad, there are a few things you'll need to know.
Your BlackBerry® phone will automatically find and connect to a local wireless network when you travel outside the UK. You see an indicator on your phone screen to let you know that you are using a different network.
The plan you are on in the UK does not include the costs of using email on your phone abroad unless you have bought a World Email Booster.
You can avoid extra data costs by turning off email, internet services, BlackBerry Messaging and Picture Messages as all of these use data over the internet. Your BlackBerry® phone will then only have calls and text messaging available.
