Transferring your number (Porting)
Thankfully, switching networks doesn't mean you need to change your mobile number. Here's what to do if you want to take your number with you, free of charge.
Here's a few points to note before your transfer (port) can take place.
- Before the transferring your number takes place, don't forget to copy any information on your existing SIM card to your new SIM card. You can do this yourself or if transferring to T-Mobile, take both cards to any T-Mobile store and we'll do it for you. But remember, you will not be able to do this once the transfer has taken place.
- Don't forget to use any outstanding credit or allowance on your old account as you won't be able to transfer them.
- We highly recommend that your mobile phone is in the UK on the day that your transfer takes place (as we cannot guarantee the number will be transferred if your phone is abroad.
- If you're keeping your current mobile phone, you may need to obtain an 'unlock' code from your current network so that it can work on your new network. This can take a few days so call them before the transfer date.
Note: There maybe a charge for doing this. - If you have registered your temporary number on My T-Mobile, once your transfer is complete, you'll need to log in and select for your transferred number to be your primary number on your account. This can be found under the personal details, Manage accounts section.
- If you have a Pay as you go account, you will need to top up your account in order for the transfer to take place.
- The bill you receive after your number has been transferred will include part line rental charges and allowances for both the temporary T-Mobile number as well as the number your have transferred.
